Planted
Carrots are planted in the spring in ideal conditions i.e. when the soil temperatures are higher and germination is much higher.
Carrot are planted in beds - these are a group of rows together which make it easier to care for and harvest the carrots. We hope to add video of this when it happens.
April - September.
Spraying and fertiliser.
Carrots must then be cared for by the farmer this includes applying fertiliser and sprays to keep the carrots healthy. We hope to add video of this later in the year.
September - October
Harvesting carrots
Harvesting
Carrots are harvested from September onwards.
October - March
Protect from frost
From October on some fields of carrots are covered with straw to protect them from the frost. This means that weather permitting carrots can be harvested all winter to provide fresh carrots all year round.
Preparing carrots.
M. H. Poskitt Ltd who allowed us to film these operations also gave the chance to film the carrots being washed, sorted and packed in their factory.
