The purpose of this unit is to enable learners to understand agricultural policy, its development, and its effect upon land based production together with its wider economic, social and environmental impact. The unit also provides learners with the opportunity to examine key economic concepts and fundamental marketing principles and their application to land based production.                 

AIMS:

  •  To enable learners to contextualise agricultural policy and its reform from economic, social and environmental perspectives

  •  To enable learners to evaluate key economic concepts and consider fundamental marketing principles and their application to land based production,   

 

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

At the end of this module the student should be able to:

  1. Explain the factors which determine the formulation and reformulation of food and agricultural policy and outline the development of the CAP from its inception to the present day.

  2. Discuss the reform of the CAP and its likely medium and long term structure.

  3. Discuss the current and future position and role of the agricultural and related industries in the U. K., E. U. and World economy.

  4. Explain key economic concepts and business structures and tax.
